Computing

Computers are essential for the Linguistics student if for no other reason than that all Departmental communications are carried on over electronic mail (email). In addition, everybody uses computers to write and rewrite their Qualifying Papers and conference papers, not to mention their dissertation. Basically, everyone at the Department uses either a Macintosh (and Microsoft Word) or CSLI's UNIX computers (and (La)TeX) for writing papers. PCs are virtually unknown.
