The Department has certain consulting faculty, people who generally work in industry, but who have expressed an interest in working with students in our department. (They don't get paid for it.) Since their presence in the department isn't high, it can be hard to get to know them. But many of them know a lot and so it might be worth seeking them out. There are also several professors emeritus (emeriti?) and professors in other departments who can prove most useful.
